The Google TV Streamer now costs $50 more

Google has officially raised the price of its Google TV Streamer, marking a significant jump for the company’s flagship 4K streaming box. The device now retails for 149 dollars, which is a fifty dollar increase from its original launch price of 99 dollars. While the updated pricing is already reflected on the official Google Store and at Best Buy, some shoppers may still find the old price listed on Amazon for the time being.

This move follows a broader trend of rising costs across Google’s hardware ecosystem. Just two weeks ago, the company introduced its Pixel 11 phone lineup, which saw a hundred dollar price hike compared to the previous generation of Pixel 10 devices. For consumers, these changes suggest that the era of aggressive entry level pricing for Google’s gadgets may be shifting toward higher margins.

However, Google isn’t alone in pushing prices upward. A wave of cost increases has hit several major players in the streaming market, largely driven by ongoing component shortages affecting electronics globally. Recently, Amazon hiked the price of its Fire TV Stick 4K Max by more than forty percent to nearly eighty five dollars, while Apple implemented widespread price adjustments in June that pushed its Apple TV 4K models up to as much as two hundred and forty nine dollars depending on storage capacity.

Launched in 2024, the Google TV Streamer was designed to do more than just push video to a screen, doubling as a comprehensive smart home hub. Despite its versatility, it now joins an increasingly expensive landscape where laptops and game consoles are seeing similar trends. As supply chain pressures persist, users looking to upgrade their living room setups may find themselves paying considerably more than they did just a year ago.
