The Apple Watch Gets Its Siri AI Upgrade

Apple has officially pulled back the curtain on the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, introducing a suite of upgrades that lean heavily into artificial intelligence and high end materials. While the physical silhouettes remain largely unchanged from previous generations, both models are powered by the new S11 chip, which promises snappier performance and serves as the foundation for a significantly smarter version of Siri. This upgrade is paired with watchOS 27, bringing Apple Intelligence to the wrist via a variety of intuitive interface changes, including a dynamic app grid that suggests tools based on your habits and new one handed gestures designed to make navigation feel more fluid.

The standout feature of this release is undoubtedly the overhauled Siri, which now functions as a sophisticated AI notetaker. Through a new capability called Siri Recap, the watch can transcribe and translate conversations in real time. During a presentation, Apple demonstrated how a user could simply scroll back through a fifteen second transcript on their wrist to catch something they missed during a conversation. To complement these smarts, Apple is doubling down on health tracking with a redesigned Health app featuring a Longevity tab that calculates Health Age and readiness scores, supported by an updated sensor array that provides heart rate data every five seconds.

For those interested in aesthetics and durability, Apple is reviving its ceramic casing for the Series 12 after a four year hiatus. Available in pearl white and night blue, this material is claimed to be four times tougher than stainless steel. Meanwhile, those opting for aluminum will find several colors crafted from recycled materials, ranging from radiant gold to a brand new dark bronze. Battery life sees a boost specifically for the Ultra 4, which can now last up to fifty hours thanks to part proactive power management that disables unused features to stretch every charge.

Beyond the hardware, there are significant shifts in functionality within watchOS 27. Fitness enthusiasts gain deeper logging capabilities for strength training—including reps and weight—and women’s health tracking has expanded to include specific support for perimenopause and menopause symptoms. However, not all news is additive; Apple has confirmed it is retiring the longtime Walkie Talkie feature starting with this update. As These devices hit shelves soon, existing owners of compatible watches can also look forward to downloading much of the new software experience independently of the latest hardware purchase.
