Apple wanted the iPhone Ultra to cost $1,999, new report says – GSMArena.com news

Apple is gearing up for its highly anticipated annual launch event on September 9, where all signs point toward the debut of the iPhone Ultra. This device marks a pivotal moment for the tech giant as it finally enters the foldable smartphone arena after what sources describe as nearly a decade of internal development. While fans have waited years to see how Apple would tackle a folding screen, it appears that the final product may carry a premium price tag that reflects both its ambition and current economic hurdles.

According to reporting from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple originally envisioned a starting price of 1,999 dollars for the iPhone Ultra. However, global supply chain issues involving memory chips and significant price spikes in components have forced the company to reconsider. Now, expectations are shifting toward a base price of roughly 2,199 dollars, with high end configurations featuring maximum storage potentially reaching as much as 3,000 dollars.

Despite the steep costs, Apple is positioning the hardware as an industry leader in build quality. The reports suggest the phone will feature a sophisticated hinge system made from titanium and aluminum, alongside specialized cover glass created through a partnership with Corning. One of the most touted features is a virtually invisible crease on the main display, addressing one of the primary complaints users have had with existing foldables from other manufacturers.

In terms of design, the iPhone Ultra is expected to boast a large 7.8 inch folding screen paired with a smaller 5.5 inch cover display. When fully unfolded, its dimensions are said to resemble those of an Apple Magic Trackpad, providing an expansive canvas for productivity and media consumption. Once closed, however, the device remains portable enough to be comparable in size to a standard passport, blending massive screen real estate with pocketable convenience.
