iPhone 17 Pro vs. iPhone 18 Pro: 35+ Upgrades Compared

Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, shifting the focus away from the dramatic exterior overhaul seen with last year’s model toward massive internal gains. While the iPhone 17 Pro introduced a striking aluminum unibody and Ceramic Shield 2, this latest generation prioritizes raw power and efficiency. At the heart of the device is the A20 Pro chip, marking Apple’s first venture into TSMC’s 2nm process. This hardware leap is supported by a next generation vapor chamber with three times more surface area than before, ensuring that the phone can maintain high performance without overheating during intensive tasks.

Photography enthusiasts have plenty to cheer for thanks to a significant rework of the camera system. The standout addition is a variable aperture on the 48 megapixel Fusion Main camera, giving users four different settings to control light and depth manually through pro controls in the app. Along with improved low light performance and enhanced Cinematic mode capabilities—now supporting 4K Dolby Vision at 60 frames per second—the cameras feel like professional tools integrated into a handheld device. Even small details were addressed, such as a slightly smaller Dynamic Island that can now handle three simultaneous Live Activities instead of two.

Power management sees perhaps its most meaningful jump in years, particularly for those opting for the larger model. The iPhone 18 Pro Max delivers what Apple calls the largest battery life increase in company history, jumping to 45 hours of video playback compared to 39 on its predecessor. Charging speeds have also accelerated, with compatible adapters allowing users to hit a fifty percent charge in roughly fifteen minutes. These improvements come with a premium price tag, however, as the starting cost for the standard Pro model has risen to 1,199 dollars, up from last year’s opening price of 1,099 dollars.
