Berlin has once again become the epicenter of the tech world as IFA 2026 kicks off at Messe Berlin. While the general public won’t gain access until Friday, the atmosphere is already electric following a series of high profile press events. With over 1,900 brands descending on the city, including giants like Samsung and LG, the overarching theme is predictably artificial intelligence. AI is appearing in everything from high end laptops to surprisingly niche household appliances, though some attendees are questioning whether every single gadget truly needs a brain to function.
Dyson stole much of the early spotlight with its Dyson Unveiled event, where the company launched ten new products in one fell swoop. Moving beyond its famous vacuums and air purifiers, the brand is aggressively expanding into health and beauty technology, even debuting its first ever toothbrush. Meanwhile, mobile innovation continues to shift toward foldables. Xiaomi introduced the Xiaomi 18 Fold featuring a squat passport shape designed for better video viewing and powered by their own proprietary Xring 03 chip, positioning itself directly against Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 and rumors of a forthcoming folding iPhone Ultra.
Beyond the major corporate booths, the exhibition floor is filled with eccentric inventions that blur the line between genius and overkill. Highlights include Neakasa’s Riko pet feeder which automatically rehydrates freeze dried food for cats, and BleeqUp’s Rover sports glasses that use AI cameras to film rides while providing audio navigation prompts to cyclists. Even home climate control is getting a futuristic upgrade via Midea, which showcased an air conditioner using spatial imaging to track users around a room and beam cool air specifically toward them to save energy.
For those looking for true spectacle, XPENG brought a taste of science fiction to Berlin with a flying car concept developed by ARIDGE. The system consists of a rugged six wheel drive mothership capable of transporting a detachable autonomous two seater air module in its trunk. Between these ambitious vehicles and mood lighting that changes color based on your emotions, IFA 2026 is proving to be a chaotic but fascinating glimpse into how companies imagine our daily lives evolving over the next decade.
