Lenovo is stepping up its game in the productivity market with the launch of the IdeaPad Vibe, a new laptop designed specifically to challenge Apple’s MacBook Neo. Positioning itself as a versatile alternative with a similar entry price point, the Vibe aims to win over users who want more variety than the current competition offers. It arrives in both 14-inch and 15-inch configurations, offering a level of flexibility in size that should appeal to students and professionals alike.
One of the most striking aspects of the Vibe is its aggressive approach to aesthetics. While the MacBook Neo sticks to four traditional shades, Lenovo is launching with seven distinct colors featuring whimsical names like dreamy violet, spicy gold, and radiant coral. To further lean into personalization, buyers can custom order their machines with matching colored keycaps or purchase separate sets to create a mix-and-match look. Adding a practical touch that deviates from the Neo, Lenovo has also ensured every unit features a backlit keyboard.
Under the hood, Lenovo is providing several hardware paths depending on when customers buy. Models powered by AMD chips are expected to hit shelves in October, followed by Qualcomm Snapdragon X versions in November, while Intel variants are slated for release at a later date. Performance specs vary across these tiers; for instance, the AMD models will support up to 32GB of user-upgradeable RAM and feature dual-slot SSDs for easy storage expansion up to 1TB. However, there are hints that base models may start with just 8GB of memory.
In terms of build and utility, the Vibe evolves from the previous IdeaPad Slim series by introducing an all-metal chassis for most colors and switching to modern USB-C charging. Connectivity is where Lenovo truly diverges from Apple, packing in far more ports including two USB-A slots and a microSD card reader, though they aren’t particularly high speed. Display options remain largely focused on IPS LCD panels across both sizes, although those opting for lowkey gray or moody blue can upgrade to a premium touchscreen OLED screen.
