Trump made over 1,000 July stock trades worth up to $270m, filings reveal

New financial disclosure filings have revealed that Donald Trump engaged in a flurry of market activity throughout July, executing more than one thousand stock trades with a total value ranging from 79 million to 270 million dollars. According to an analysis conducted by the Guardian, these transactions included several high profile moves on July 20 alone, where the president offloaded between five and 25 million dollars each in Amazon and Microsoft shares. He also trimmed positions in Oracle, Costco, and Nvidia while simultaneously investing up to five million dollars into Salesforce and Intuit.

In total, the records show over seven hundred sales totaling as much as 137 million dollars and more than four hundred purchases reaching up to 134 million dollars. These figures highlight a level of trading volume that far exceeds typical government activity; indeed, a Bloomberg analysis noted that since the start of his second term through June, Trump had made more trades than every member of Congress combined. This massive turnover occurs against a backdrop of immense wealth, with previous disclosures showing annual earnings of over two billion dollars from various business ventures and cryptocurrency.

The White House has moved quickly to distance the president from these specific maneuvers, insisting that his portfolio is handled exclusively by third party financial institutions. Spokesperson Davis Ingle stated that the assets are held in discretionary accounts using computer based models designed to replicate recognized indexes like the Schwab 1000. According to the administration, neither Trump nor his family provides any input or direction regarding when assets are bought or sold, meaning all decisions are left entirely to independent managers.

This revelation arrives at a politically sensitive moment as Trump continues to support legislation aimed at banning members of Congress from trading individual stocks. While the Stop Insider Trading Act recently passed the House of Representatives with broad popular support across both parties, it notably excludes the president and vice president from its restrictions. Critics and watchdog groups have pointed out this discrepancy, especially as other disclosures suggest Trump profited millions from energy investments during periods of geopolitical instability involving Iran.
