Chaos Grips Riyadh Airport After Repeated Missile Strikes

Violence erupted once again at King Khalid International Airport on Sunday evening when another projectile struck the facility, leaving one person dead and eleven others wounded. The General Authority of Civil Aviation confirmed that the victim was a Pakistani resident, while those injured were rushed to various local hospitals for treatment. A passenger witnessing the event from a taxiing aircraft described a terrifying scene where a projectile hit the tarmac near several parked planes around 8:30 pm, sparking an immediate fire and forcing aircraft back to their gates.

This latest assault marks the fourth time the airport has been targeted in just five days, highlighting a dangerous breach in regional security. The strike specifically impacted terminals three and four, which handle domestic travel, coming less than twenty-four hours after a devastating missile hit that killed twelve people and left over three hundred injured. Adding to the tragedy, India’s embassy reported that one of its citizens also succumbed to injuries from Saturday’s blast, raising that specific death toll to thirteen.

The repeated attacks by Iran-backed Houthi rebels have pushed tensions toward a boiling point, threatening to pull the United States directly into the conflict. While President Donald Trump has indicated he is weighing options to assist Saudi Arabia, there is growing concern that American military intervention could provoke the Houthis into blocking critical shipping lanes in the Bab al-Mandeb strait. Such a move would severely restrict global oil flows and send shockwaves through international energy markets already strained by the volatility in Yemen.

As Saudi authorities carry out emergency safety inspections and damage assessments across the airfield, the airport remains closed to traffic. This period of escalation represents some of the deadliest violence seen in the region since February, placing immense pressure on Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to secure more robust defenses against these persistent aerial threats. For now, the world watches closely as diplomatic efforts struggle to keep pace with the rapid deterioration of stability on the ground.
