Bull rides, investment talk and networking: Investors and CEOs gather in Fort Worth

Forget the sterile boardrooms of Manhattan or the glass towers of Silicon Valley. Last week, some of the most powerful figures in global finance traded their tailored suits for cowboy hats and boots in the heart of Fort Worth. Around 100 institutional investors, CEOs, and academic leaders gathered for the third annual Rock Yard Roundup, an event designed by Rock Yard Ventures founder Daniel Dart to strip away the pretension typically associated with managing trillions of dollars in assets.

Set against the rugged backdrop of the Stockyards, the gathering blended high-stakes intellectual discourse with raw Western experience. Attendees spent their time alternating between deep dives into biotechnology regulations and co-investing strategies and watching adrenaline-fueled bull rides. The atmosphere was intentionally unpretentious, offering guests a chance to get fitted for custom hats while networking in a way that felt more like a community gathering than a corporate summit.

For Dart, moving the event from its usual Austin location to Cowtown was a deliberate move to capture a timeless American spirit. Drawing on his own unconventional life path—which saw him transition from a troubled youth in California to earning degrees from the London School of Economics and MIT—Dart sought to create a space where independent thinkers could challenge conventional wisdom without the rigid facades of Wall Street or what locals call Yall Street.

The conversation often mirrored this blend of grit and growth, highlighting how success can emerge far beyond the traditional coastal hubs. One highlight included a discussion on the Professional Bull Riders organization, which began with twenty cowboys investing a thousand dollars each and eventually grew into a multi-billion dollar entity. For many participants, the takeaway was clear: whether discussing quantum AI servers or livestock ventures, there is a growing appetite among elite investors to return to domestic manufacturing and authentic American industry.
