Oil extends losses as Saudi Arabia reportedly offers ship-to-ship crude transfers after pipeline hit

Global oil prices continued their downward trend on Thursday as markets reacted to news that Saudi Arabia is finding ways to bypass recent infrastructure damage. Brent futures dipped slightly to 105.81 dollars per barrel, while U.S. crude saw a modest decline to 102.14 dollars. The slide comes after an initial spike in anxiety triggered by attacks on the kingdom’s vital East-West pipeline, which had threatened to choke off significant portions of the global energy supply.

To stabilize the market and maintain commitments to its partners, Saudi Arabia has reportedly begun offering ship-to-ship crude transfers near Oman’s Sohar port. This logistical pivot allows the kingdom to get essential cargoes to Asian refiners despite the interruptions affecting its Red Sea export terminal at Yanbu. The move follows a period of tension where loadings at Yanbu were halted and several shipments destined for Europe were canceled, causing immediate alarm among traders who feared a prolonged shortage.

Adding to the sense of relief, U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright suggested during a recent interview that the pipeline outage was merely a brief and temporary interruption likely to be resolved within days. Because Yanbu serves as the primary exit point for Saudi oil since Iranian blockades closed off the Strait of Hormuz earlier this year, any hiccup there carries immense weight for global pricing and stability.

Despite the current dip in prices, industry analysts warn that the situation remains fragile. Experts suggest that while these alternative shipping methods provide a necessary cushion, the broader economic outlook depends entirely on whether tensions in the Middle East escalate further. A deeper conflict could reignite inflationary pressures and complicate interest rate decisions for the U.S. Federal Reserve if energy costs surge back toward critical levels.
