Three new iPhones launch this week, here’s what’s coming

Apple is preparing to shake up the smartphone market this Wednesday with a high stakes event centered on three powerhouse devices. This year, the tech giant is pivoting away from its usual broad release strategy to focus exclusively on the premium end of the spectrum. The spotlight falls on the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, which aim to build upon their predecessors with significant internal leaps. These models are expected to debut the A20 Pro chip for enhanced efficiency and a custom C2 cellular modem developed in house by Apple. Users can also look forward to a revamped Camera Control system, improved satellite capabilities including 5G, and a noticeably smaller Dynamic Island that gives the screen a more seamless appearance.

Photography enthusiasts have plenty to be excited about, as rumors point toward major upgrades for the main camera featuring variable aperture technology. While these advancements come with potential price hikes, specifically for the Pro model which some estimate could climb as high as 1,399 dollars, they are paired with what is being touted as the best battery life in company history. To top off the hardware refresh, Apple is reportedly introducing several new color options, led by a striking and bold burgundy finish that deviates from previous muted palettes.

However, the real showstopper of the evening will likely be the introduction of the iPhone Ultra. Marking Apple’s first foray into foldable technology, this device represents a radical departure from traditional designs. Featuring a book style fold, it boasts a small outer display and an expansive inner screen nearly eight inches across, effectively turning the phone into something resembling an iPad mini when unfolded. Because of its luxury positioning and complex engineering, expectations for pricing sit well above 2,000 dollars. Interestingly, this model may swap Face ID for Touch ID and utilize specialized software within iOS 27 to allow for true side by side multitasking.

In a surprising twist, longtime fans will notice some glaring omissions from this autumn’s lineup. Both the standard iPhone 18 and the anticipated iPhone Air 2 appear to be missing from the schedule, with reports suggesting they have been pushed back to early 2027. Whether this delay is part of a calculated business move or a result of ongoing global memory shortages remains unclear. Regardless of the reason, those looking for an entry level upgrade will have to wait longer while Apple doubles down on its ultra high end ambitions this season.
