Turkey probes alleged Israeli-led $3 billion fraud network

Turkish authorities have launched a massive crackdown on what they describe as an international investment fraud network that siphoned more than three billion dollars from victims worldwide. In a coordinated effort involving the Interior Ministry, national intelligence services, and Interpol, police raided hundreds of locations across Istanbul and Mugla Province. The sweeping operation resulted in the arrest of 191 suspects and the seizure of significant assets, including luxury real estate, dozens of vehicles, and millions in cryptocurrency.

Prosecutors allege that the scheme was orchestrated by Israeli nationals whom they have labeled fraud barons. These individuals reportedly established a sophisticated organizational structure using shell companies disguised as consulting and tourism centers within Turkey. To maintain secrecy, employees were allegedly assigned code names and fake biographies—some claiming degrees from elite institutions like Oxford—and were subjected to polygraph tests to ensure they had no links to law enforcement. Strict internal rules were enforced, including bans on personal phones and prohibitions against speaking Hebrew within the office walls.

The fraudulent operation lured unsuspecting investors through aggressive social media campaigns promising high returns on cryptocurrency and foreign exchange trades. Using platforms like Quantum AI and Inefex, scammers manipulated digital dashboards to show fabricated profits, encouraging victims to invest increasingly larger sums. When users attempted to withdraw their funds, they were told their accounts were blocked and pressured to pay fictitious taxes or fees to unlock their money. Investigators believe these tactics allowed the group to funnel billions into offshore bank accounts and crypto wallets beyond Turkish jurisdiction.

Interestingly, investigators claim the network specifically avoided targeting citizens of Israel and the United States, focusing instead on residents of countries such as the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, South Korea, and several nations across Europe and Asia. This strategic avoidance reportedly began after Israel banned binary options trading in 2017, prompting the organizers to shift their operations abroad. As legal proceedings begin, Turkish officials continue to probe deeper into the money laundering channels used by the syndicate to hide its vast illicit wealth.
