This US carrier doesn’t want to let you use one phone number on two iPhones – GSMArena.com news

Apple users who enjoy juggling multiple devices may find themselves hitting a wall depending on which cellular provider they use. The latest update to iOS introduces a feature called iPhone Handoff, designed to allow a single phone number to operate across two different iPhones. While the phones cannot be active simultaneously, the tool streamlines the experience for those moving between a primary device and a secondary backup or work phone.

The industry response has been split along carrier lines in the United States. T-Mobile was quick to embrace the technology, launching support almost immediately for a monthly fee of five dollars. Meanwhile, Verizon has signaled its intent to join the party, confirming that its customers should expect access to the handoff capability by the end of this calendar year.

AT&T, however, appears to be digging its heels in. As the final major holdout among the big three carriers, AT&T has indicated it has little interest in implementing the feature for its user base. In a statement provided to CNET, a company spokesperson acknowledged the potential of such tools but insisted that their current priority is focused on other types of innovation intended to simplify connectivity and build customer confidence.

To justify its stance, AT&T pointed toward existing eSIM activation and transfer options that already allow users to move service between compatible devices. Since much of what iPhone Handoff actually does is simply automate and polish that transition process, the carrier views current methods as sufficient. For loyal AT&T subscribers hoping for a more seamless multi-device experience, this confirmation serves as a disappointing reminder that not every Apple feature makes it onto every network.
