Supply Chain Blind Spot Leaves Early iPhone Duo Buyers Waiting

Apple may have rushed into its latest product launch at the expense of its own customers. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the tech giant committed a major mistake by opening pre-orders for the iPhone Duo despite being fully aware that manufacturing hurdles would lead to severe supply constraints. Rather than delaying the rollout until inventory levels were stable, Apple seemingly prioritized hitting specific financial targets within its first fiscal quarter over ensuring a smooth experience for buyers.

The situation was further complicated by Apple’s decision to expand the initial release window. While the company originally intended to limit sales to just the United States and China, it ultimately pivoted to a massive simultaneous launch across more than 70 countries. This aggressive expansion backfired almost immediately, with estimated shipping dates sliding toward late January in most regions less than half an hour after orders opened.

The fallout has already reached the storefronts, where retail staff are reportedly bracing for frustrated crowds. Employees have been instructed to warn potential customers against attempting walk-in purchases on launch day, as stores are expected to have virtually no stock available for those who didn’t secure a pre-order. For many early adopters, what should have been an exciting upgrade has turned into a lesson in corporate impatience.
