Miami Police Release New Official Statement Ahead of GTA 6’s Release

The anticipation surrounding the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 has reached a fever pitch, but not everyone in Florida is excited about the spotlight. In a surprising clash between pop culture and public policy, Miami Dade officials are pushing back against the idea of formally associating the city with Rockstar Games’ infamous crime simulator. While some members of Mayor Daniella Levine Cava’s staff reportedly explored marketing opportunities to capitalize on the hype and boost tourism, local law enforcement is firmly shutting down those ambitions.

Sheriff Rosie Cordero Stutz has emerged as one of the most vocal critics of a potential partnership, arguing that aligning the city with Vice City would be counterproductive to years of effort spent reducing violence. According to a joint statement released by Cordero Stutz and Commissioner Juan Carlos Bermudez, the franchise is fundamentally built on activities like drug trafficking, robbery, and attacks on law enforcement. They argue that spending decades rebranding Miami as a world class destination for business and investment makes it illogical to promote a fictionalized version of their community defined primarily by chaos.

The rumored marketing campaign was surprisingly ambitious, involving proposals for Welcome to Vice City signs at Miami International Airport, branded manhole covers throughout the county, and custom wraps for Metromover trains. Even judicial officials have weighed in, with the chief judge and clerk requesting that courthouses remain entirely exempt from any promotional tie ins. Despite these objections, some officials admit that a deal with Rockstar could bring an unprecedented economic windfall to the region given the global scale of the game’s fanbase.

For now, it seems the dream of turning Miami into a living tribute to Vice City is dead in the water. Law enforcement believes that protecting the image of real world policing outweighs any temporary spike in tourist foot traffic generated by gamers. However, as trailers continue to leak and gameplay details emerge online, the connection between Miami and its digital alter ego will likely persist regardless of whether there is an official stamp of approval from City Hall.
