Meta announces data center expansion, new community investments in Eagle Mountain

Eagle Mountain is preparing for a significant boost in both technology and community resources following an announcement from Meta regarding the expansion of its local data center. Having first broken ground in 2018 with a sprawling footprint of over two million square feet, the tech giant is now deepening its roots in the area. Local officials describe the relationship not merely as a corporate presence but as a true partnership that has allowed the city to manage its rapid growth while securing vital infrastructure upgrades.

The expanded agreement brings tangible benefits to the public sector, particularly within education. Meta is committing more than one million dollars toward local schooling initiatives, including six hundred thousand dollars to help the Lake Mountain School District acquire land for a new elementary school. Additionally, four hundred fifty thousand dollars will fund the construction of the Walden Park Observatory, a project designed to offer students and families a hands-on venue for astronomy and science education.

Beyond classrooms, Meta is addressing some of the most common criticisms associated with massive data hubs, specifically concerning power consumption and grid stability. As part of this latest phase, the company is implementing a 150 megawatt battery storage facility to better manage energy needs. This proactive approach comes at a time when other Utah communities are pushing back against similar projects due to environmental and utility concerns, leading some cities to impose temporary moratoriums on data center development.

Mayor Jared Gray emphasized that Meta has consistently honored its commitments over nearly a decade, providing essential funds for roads and water systems alongside stable employment opportunities. By integrating these industrial expansions with direct civic investment, Eagle Mountain aims to maintain its status as one of the fastest-growing cities in the country while ensuring it remains an attractive place for families to settle and build long-term futures.
