Harris Teeter is doubling down on its roots in the Queen City with a massive 253 million dollar investment aimed at modernizing its presence across the Charlotte region. The grocery chain announced that the funding will go toward refreshing existing storefronts and expanding its footprint with three entirely new locations. This strategic move comes as part of a broader effort to update the shopping experience for loyal customers who have relied on the brand since its humble beginnings on Central Avenue nearly nine decades ago.
Shoppers in several neighboring towns can expect significant changes to their local aisles over the next few years. Planned renovations will hit stores in Matthews, Waxhaw, Concord, and Huntersville in North Carolina, as well as Fort Mill and Rock Hill in South Carolina. These upgrades aren’t just cosmetic; they focus heavily on expanded fresh produce, bakeries, and prepared food sections, alongside updated layouts designed to make navigating the store less stressful. Customers can also look forward to improved parking lots and faster systems for pickup and delivery services.
Beyond the facelifts for current shops, Harris Teeter is growing its reach by breaking ground on new stores in Kannapolis, North Carolina, and both Lake Wylie and Fort Mill in South Carolina. While specific opening dates haven’t been released yet, these additions signal a strong growth trajectory for the company within the Carolinas. To keep disruptions minimal, the company plans to roll out these changes in phases over a three year period, capping off each project with grand re-opening celebrations once work is complete.
President Tammy DeBoer emphasized that this financial commitment is a reflection of the deep bond between the grocer and the community it serves. By focusing on convenience and enhanced service departments, she noted that the company hopes to better support families who have integrated Harris Teeter into their daily routines for generations. As one of the most recognizable brands along the East Coast with over 250 locations, this latest push ensures that its home base remains competitive and contemporary.
