David Ellison Mulls Tapping Elon Musk for Paramount Investment While Closing in on Warner Bros. Takeover: Report

David Ellison is reportedly exploring the possibility of bringing Elon Musk into a syndicate of equity investors as he nears the finish line of a massive takeover involving Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery. According to a report from Semafor, the tech mogul is one of several high net worth individuals Ellison has considered tapping for fresh capital to fuel the merged entertainment giant. While neither Paramount nor representatives for Musk have commented on the potential partnership, the move would align with existing financial ties between Musk and David’s father, Oracle founder Larry Ellison, who previously invested heavily in both Tesla and the acquisition of X.

The timing comes as the merger enters its final stages following a settlement with twelve state attorneys general over antitrust concerns. With a court hearing scheduled for Thursday to review the proposed consent decree, the deal is expected to close within two weeks if approved. This consolidated entity represents a staggering valuation of 111 billion dollars, backed by a personal guarantee of nearly 47 billion dollars from Larry Ellison and substantial commitments from sovereign wealth funds in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.

To clear regulatory hurdles, Paramount has agreed to strict conditions designed to protect American cinema and journalistic integrity. As part of its settlement with state officials, the company cannot sell its California studio lots for five years and must commit at least 300 million dollars annually toward domestic film production. Furthermore, there are mandates regarding theatrical releases and a required forty five day window for wide release films to ensure stability for movie theaters.

Perhaps most notably, the new media empire will operate under the oversight of a news editorial independence board. This body will be tasked with establishing guiding principles for both CNN and CBS News to maintain professional standards across these legacy outlets. Meanwhile, federal regulators have already signaled their support by allowing foreign entities to hold up to 49.5 percent of the company’s equity once the transaction is finalized.
