Bank of America to hire 1,000 more apprentices, invest $150M in workforce development

Bank of America is doubling down on its commitment to non traditional hiring by adding 1,000 new apprentice positions over the next two years. This move expands an existing program that already brings in roughly 800 participants annually through paid work based learning. These roles will be spread across several key sectors of the business, including technology, operations, and consumer banking, reflecting a broader shift toward valuing specific skill sets over formal academic credentials.

To support these initiatives, the Charlotte based financial giant is pledging 150 million dollars over the next five years toward workforce development organizations. This investment aims to bridge the gap between talent and opportunity by funding groups that equip workers with in demand technical skills. It builds upon a significant foundation laid last year, when the bank invested nearly 40 million dollars through partnerships with hundreds of nonprofits and educational institutions.

Chief Executive Brian Moynihan framed the expansion as a necessary step in preparing a skilled American workforce for the future. He noted that the private sector is finding more room to innovate thanks to a practical approach currently being taken by the Department of Labor. The trend is evident within the bank’s own numbers, as approximately 40 percent of its recent hires do not hold a bachelor’s degree. Beyond general apprenticeships, the firm is also targeting specialized recruitment goals, aiming to hire 10,000 veterans and 8,000 community college graduates over coming years.

Acting Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling praised the move, emphasizing that such programs allow Americans to secure high paying careers without having to leave their home communities behind. This push for domestic talent arrives alongside other massive investments from Bank of America, including a recently unveiled 250 billion dollar initiative aimed at modernizing United States infrastructure through projects like semiconductor facilities and data centers.
