Apple is reportedly working on iPhone game controllers

Apple may soon be entering the competitive world of gaming peripherals with reports suggesting the company is developing its own line of game controllers for the iPhone. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, these new accessories are expected to launch under the Beats brand rather than carrying the primary Apple logo. This move follows recent discoveries by MacRumors, which spotted references to two first party game controllers hidden within the code of macOS 26.7.

While the evidence was found in Mac software, insiders indicate that the hardware is specifically intended for mobile users. By utilizing the Beats label, Apple can strategically navigate a market where affordability is key. Using a subsidiary allows the company to experiment with different materials and price points that might not align with the ultra premium image of their core product line, similar to how they currently market certain phone cases and charging cables through Beats.

Beyond just pricing, analysts suggest that a controller fits better within the lifestyle branding of Beats than it would as a standard corporate accessory. Gaming often overlaps with music and street culture, making it a natural extension for a brand already rooted in those spaces. If these rumors hold true, it marks another significant step in Apple’s ongoing effort to make the iPhone a more viable platform for high end gaming experiences.
