Amazon’s new Fire TV Stick 4K can pull power directly from your TV

Amazon is making its home cinema setup a bit less cluttered with the release of the new Fire TV Stick 4K. Available starting today for 59.99 dollars, the latest streaming device removes one of the most common annoyances for users by allowing them to pull power directly from their television’s USB port. This eliminates the need for a separate power adapter and wall plug, bringing the higher end model in line with the simpler setup found on Amazon’s entry level sticks released earlier this year.

Beyond the simplified wiring, the device comes packed with modern connectivity options including Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3. As part of a broader effort to clean up its product catalog, Amazon is streamlining its lineup down to just four core devices: the Fire TV Stick HD, the standard 4K model, the 4K Max, and the high end Fire TV Cube. This move effectively retires several older versions such as the Select and Plus models to make shopping easier for consumers.

Accompanying the hardware update is a newly designed remote that features an asymmetrical shape intended to feel more comfortable in the hand. While this basic remote launches soon for 14.99 dollars and works with almost any Fire TV device made since 2019, those looking for luxury can expect a premium version early next year. That upcoming upscale remote will boast an aluminum chassis, backlit buttons, and a built in find my remote feature for those who frequently lose theirs between couch cushions.

On the software side, Amazon is leaning heavily into artificial intelligence through various Alexa Plus integrations across its ecosystem. These updates allow for more nuanced conversations when searching for content, as the AI can now reference real world contexts like recent award shows or current events to suggest movies and series. A dedicated Amazon Music app is also slated for release later this autumn, further integrating these smart recommendations into how users discover podcasts and songs via their televisions.
