Gurman: ‘iPhone Duo Max’ With Bigger Display Likely in Apple’s Plans

Apple appears to be thinking far beyond the initial launch of its first foldable device, according to the latest insights from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. While the tech world is still buzzing over the recent reveal of the iPhone Duo, Gurman suggests that a more expansive lineup is already in the works. He predicts that Apple will eventually introduce an iPhone Duo Max, which would offer users an even larger display than the current model, potentially catering to power users who want a tablet-like experience in their pocket.

The naming convention itself reveals a strategic move by Apple executives. According to Gurman, internal teams originally referred to the project as the iPhone Ultra, but leadership ultimately pivoted to the Duo branding. This choice aligns the foldable line with existing product families like Air and Pro, creating a consistent linguistic pattern across Apple’s ecosystem. By avoiding the term Ultra for now, Apple maintains flexibility to expand the series without boxing themselves into a corner.

Beyond just a larger screen, there is speculation that we could see further diversification of the folding line. Gurman mentions the possibility of a budget friendly Duo SE or perhaps a compact Duo Mini featuring a clamshell design. These additions would allow Apple to capture different segments of the market while refining its approach to flexible glass and hinge durability.

Ultimately, Gurman believes these efforts will position Apple to dominate the foldable landscape entirely. Between deep software integration and higher build quality than current competitors, he argues that these devices will shift consumer habits significantly. If these predictions hold true, foldables won’t just be a niche luxury item but will instead become the new standard for how people interact with their smartphones.
